Peter Andreas Thiel was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on October 11, 1967. His family moved to the United States when he was a year old, and he spent his childhood in various locations due to his father's work as a chemical engineer. Thiel excelled academically, graduating valedictorian of his high school class. He later attended Stanford University, earning a B.A. in philosophy in 1989 and a J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1992.
