Early Life
Chen Tianshi was born in June 1985 in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. His father is an electrical engineer, and his mother is a history teacher, which provided a blend of technical and academic influences during his upbringing. Chen, along with his elder brother Chen Yunji, was admitted to the prestigious School of the Gifted Young at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in Hefei.
Rise to Success
Chen's academic journey began with a degree in applied mathematics in 2005 at the age of 20. He continued at USTC, earning a master's in computer engineering in 2007 and a Ph.D. in computer science and engineering in 2010. Chen then worked as a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Computing Technology, where he focused on processor architecture and artificial intelligence. In 2016, he co-founded Cambricon Technologies, aiming to revolutionize AI computation with specialized hardware solutions.
Key Business Strategies
Chen's primary strategy involves innovation in AI hardware, focusing on efficient, high-performance AI processors. Cambricon's success is closely tied to the rising demand for domestic AI chips in China, particularly after the U.S. export controls restricted access to foreign-made chips. The company's revenue surged significantly due to this protected market.
