Vladimir Sergeyevich Lisin was born on May 7, 1956, in Ivanovo, Russia. His early life was marked by a modest upbringing, which instilled a strong work ethic. He began his career in 1975 as an electrical fitter in a Soviet coal mine, later working as a welder foreman. His passion for metallurgy led him to study at the Siberian Metallurgic Institute, where he earned a diploma in metallurgical engineering in 1979.
Rise to Success
Lisin's career progressed through various roles in the metallurgical industry. In 1992, he joined the Trans-World Group (TWG), a group of traders who gained control of Russia's steel and aluminum industry. After the partners split in 2000, Lisin received a substantial share of the firm and eventually achieved a controlling interest. He became the sole owner of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK). Under his leadership, NLMK has become a dominant force in the global steel market.
