Early Life
Born in 1965 or 1966, Steven Sarowitz is an American entrepreneur. Details about his early life and childhood are limited, but he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
Rise to Success
Sarowitz's career is marked by his founding of Paylocity in 1997. He built the company to provide payroll and human capital management software solutions. Sarowitz was the owner of 44% of Paylocity at the time of its IPO in March 2014, which then decreased to 28% by April 2019. Paylocity has become a prominent player in the payroll and human capital management industry, serving thousands of businesses across the United States.
Key Business Strategies
Under Sarowitz's guidance, Paylocity achieved significant milestones, including its initial public offering (IPO) in March 2014. He focused on providing an in-house-like technology supported by the service and liability protection of an outsourcing solution. Prior to founding Paylocity, Steve worked at Robert F. White, which was then the nation's leading independent payroll service. He later managed two privately-held payroll companies and served as President to the Independent Payroll Providers Association (IPPA).
Philanthropy
Sarowitz, along with his wife Jessica, plans to donate $1 billion to charity during their lifetimes. They have two vehicles for philanthropy: their own pockets and the Julian Grace Foundation, named after their 16-year-old twins. Sarowitz has helped fund and promote a number of award-winning documentaries. He is a dedicated member of the Baha'i faith, which guides his philanthropy, and a passionate Baha'i who has given presentations about the Baha'i Faith and its vision of world unity.
