Early Life
Stanley Wei Rui Tang was born in Japan in 1992 and grew up in Hong Kong. He attended King George V School. Tang showed an interest in computers from a young age and explored programming and digital creation well before many of his peers.
Rise to Success
Tang co-founded DoorDash in 2013 with Tony Xu, Andy Fang, and Evan Moore. The company started as PaloAltoDelivery.com, aiming to solve delivery problems for local restaurants. The team handled deliveries themselves initially. DoorDash secured seed funding from Y Combinator in the summer of 2013. Under his leadership, DoorDash grew into the largest food-delivery platform in the United States. The company's IPO in December 2020 was a defining moment.
Key Business Strategies
Tang played a key role in product design, and optimizing delivery routes. His focus helped the company refine its model. Tang also served as Chief Product Officer and later Head of DoorDash Labs. Tang's technical and product leadership helped DoorDash achieve a successful IPO in 2020, solidifying its position in the on-demand delivery market.
