Early Life
Safra Ada Catz was born in December 1961 in Holon, Israel, to Jewish parents. At the age of six, she immigrated with her family to the United States, settling in Brookline, Massachusetts. She graduated from Brookline High School and then attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor's degree from the Wharton School in 1983 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1986.
Rise to Success
Catz began her career as a banker at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), where she held various positions, including managing director. In 1999, she joined Oracle Corporation as a senior vice president. She became a member of the board in 2001 and was named co-president and CFO in 2011. In 2014, she became co-CEO with Mark Hurd, and after Hurd's departure in 2019, she became the sole CEO. During her tenure, Oracle completed numerous acquisitions, including PeopleSoft and Cerner. In September 2025, Catz transitioned to the role of Executive Vice Chair.
