Early Life
Paolo Ardoino was born in Cisano sul Neva, Italy, in 1984. From a young age, Ardoino showed a strong interest in computers. He began coding around the age of eight. He studied at a scientific lyceum (secondary school) and earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Genoa in 2008.
Career
After graduating, Ardoino began his career in the tech and financial sectors. He worked as a software developer for a hedge fund in 2011. In 2013, he founded Fincluster, a technology startup that developed cloud-based financial service applications. Ardoino joined Bitfinex as a Senior Software Developer in 2014 and was promoted to CTO in 2016. In 2017, he became CTO of Tether.
In December 2023, Ardoino was appointed as the CEO of Tether. He is also involved in Holepunch, an open-source platform for building peer-to-peer products.
Key Business Strategies
As CEO of Tether, Ardoino has focused on expanding the company's investments and impact, including in renewable energy and sustainable Bitcoin mining. He is leading Tether's expansion and investments in AI and also is leading Tether's expansion into the U.S. market.
Philanthropy
Ardoino has stated Tether's support for El Salvador's Bitcoin adoption and the growth of sustainable Bitcoin mining in Uruguay. Tether is investing in various sectors such as fintech, AI, energy and blockchain with its venture arm, Tether Investments.
