Early Life
Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani was born in Aden (present-day Yemen) on April 19, 1957, into a Gujarati Hindu family. His father, Dhirubhai Ambani, founded Reliance Industries. In 1958, the family moved to India, where Mukesh spent his childhood in Mumbai. He attended Hill Grange High School and St. Xavier's College in Mumbai, and earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.
Rise to Success
Mukesh Ambani joined Reliance Industries in 1981, after dropping out of an MBA program at Stanford University. He worked alongside his father to expand the company's ventures, overseeing the establishment of its large petroleum refinery at Jamnagar. After his father's health declined, Mukesh took on a greater role within the company. Following Dhirubhai's death in 2002, Mukesh and his brother Anil Ambani initially took joint leadership of Reliance. However, the brothers later divided the Reliance assets. Under Mukesh’s leadership, Reliance Industries has grown to become India's largest private-sector corporation.
