Early Life
Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani was born on April 19, 1957, in Aden (present-day Yemen). His family moved to India in 1958. He is the son of Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries. Ambani attended Hill Grange High School and St. Xavier's College in Mumbai. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in chemical engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. He also enrolled in an MBA program at Stanford University but withdrew to assist his father in building Reliance.
Rise to Success
Mukesh Ambani joined the family business in 1981 and played a crucial role in diversifying Reliance Industries. He oversaw the establishment of a petrochemicals manufacturing plant and managed the company's vertical integration from textiles to petrochemicals. In 2002-2003, Reliance acquired a majority stake in Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (IPCL). Under his leadership, Reliance Industries has become India's largest private sector company by market capitalization and revenue. Ambani spearheaded the launch of Jio Platforms, which introduced India's first nationwide 4G broadband service in 2016, and has since expanded into 5G.
