Early Life
Lukas Tyler Walton was born on September 19, 1986, in San Diego, California. He is the only child of John T. Walton and Christy Walton. His grandfather is Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart. Lukas spent his early years in National City, California, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. At age three, he was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer but recovered after intensive treatment.
Rise to Success
Lukas inherited a significant fortune when his father, John T. Walton, died in a plane crash in 2005. He received about one-third of his father's estate. Lukas studied environmental science and economics at Colorado College, graduating in 2010. He began his career at True North Venture Partners, a venture capital firm.

Lukas is involved with the Walton Family Foundation, where he serves as the environment program committee chair. He is also the co-president of the Builders Initiative, a Walton family foundation focused on community development.
