Ludwig began his career with Roland Berger as a strategic consultant in 1993. In 1995, he joined the family business, quickly ascending through the ranks. In 1997, he became CEO of Merckle GmbH, the parent company of Ratiopharm GmbH. In 2005, he became CEO of VEM Vermögensverwaltung GmbH, and in 2009, he was appointed CEO of Merckle Service GmbH. After the tragic passing of his father, Ludwig faced the daunting task of navigating the family empire through a severe financial crisis. He successfully restructured the Merckle Group. Key to the turnaround was a $1.4 billion refinancing package and the sale of non-core assets.
