Early Life
Li Ka-shing was born on July 29, 1928, in Chao'an, Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, China. In 1940, he and his family fled to Hong Kong as refugees due to the Sino-Japanese War. At the age of 15, he was forced to leave school to support his family after his father's death.
Rise to Success
Li began his career working in a plastics trading company. In 1950, he founded Cheung Kong Industries, a plastics manufacturing company. He later entered the real estate industry and founded Cheung Kong Holdings in 1971. A significant turning point was the acquisition of Hutchison Whampoa in 1979, making him the first Chinese businessman to acquire a major British-owned trading company.

Li Ka-shing is known for his strategic investments and diversification. He expanded into various sectors, including real estate, ports, telecommunications, retail, and infrastructure.
