Idan Ofer was born in Haifa, Israel, on October 2, 1955. He is the son of Sammy Ofer, an Israeli shipping magnate, and Aviva Ofer. Growing up in a family with a strong background in business, he was exposed to the world of shipping from an early age. He served in the Israeli Navy as a deputy commander of a patrol boat. Ofer holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Shipping from the University of Haifa and an MBA from the London Business School.
