Idan Ofer was born on October 2, 1955, in Haifa, Israel. He is the son of Sammy Ofer, a shipping magnate who built a global shipping empire. Ofer grew up in Haifa and was immersed in the shipping industry from a young age. He served in the Israeli Navy as a deputy commander. Ofer holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Shipping from the University of Haifa and an MBA from London Business School.

Idan Ofer began his career by expanding his family's shipping business in Hong Kong in the 1980s. He later took control of Israel Corporation, a publicly traded conglomerate, where he holds a significant stake. Ofer founded Quantum Pacific Group, a diversified global conglomerate with investments in shipping, energy, natural resources, and the automotive sector.
