Early Life
Lütfü Haluk Bayraktar was born on October 4, 1978, in Istanbul, Turkey. His father, Özdemir Bayraktar, founded Baykar Makina in 1984. Haluk earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2000. He furthered his education in the United States, earning a Master's degree in Financial Engineering from Columbia University in 2002. He later began doctoral studies in business administration at Boğaziçi University.
Rise to Success
Haluk joined Baykar in 2004 as an engineering manager, during a time of significant development for Turkey's domestic defense capabilities. He played a key role in the company's transition into the UAV sector, managing various aspects of product development, including design, prototyping, testing, and production of UAV systems such as the Bayraktar Mini UAV and the Bayraktar TB2. In 2015, he became the CEO of Baykar, leading the company to global recognition as a top drone manufacturer. Haluk's leadership transformed Baykar into a leading defense exporter with increasing revenue from exports and a significant presence in the international market.
