Early Life
Giovanni Ferrero was born in Farigliano, Italy, on September 21, 1964. He is the son of Maria Franca Fissolo and Michele Ferrero, who founded Ferrero SpA. He studied at the European Schools in Brussels and then pursued marketing studies at Lebanon Valley College in the United States.
Rise to Success
After completing his education, Giovanni returned to Europe to work in the family business. In 1997, he became the joint CEO of Ferrero with his brother, Pietro. Following Pietro's death in 2011, Giovanni became the sole CEO. He then took on the role of executive chairman in 2015. Under his leadership, the Ferrero Group expanded its global presence and acquired several confectionery companies, including Thorntons and the U.S. confectionery business of Nestlé.
Key Business Strategies
Giovanni has focused on expanding Ferrero's product lines and geographic reach. His strategies include both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of Nestlé's U.S. candy business in 2018 for $2.8 billion. He is also focused on sustainability and responsible business practices to reduce the company's environmental impact.
Philanthropy
Giovanni continues the philanthropic traditions of the Ferrero family. The Ferrero Foundation, established by his father, supports retired employees and promotes cultural and social initiatives. Giovanni has expanded the foundation's reach, focusing on education, healthcare, and community development projects.
