Early Life and Education
Georg Nemetschek was born in 1934. He studied civil engineering at the Munich Technical University, earning a Dipl.-Ing. degree in 1958.
Rise to Success
In 1963, Nemetschek founded 'Ingenieurbüro für das Bauwesen,' focusing on structural design and becoming one of the first to utilize computers for finite element calculations. He then pivoted to software development, concentrating on architecture, engineering, and construction industries. In 1970, he was appointed professor for Civil Engineering Informatics at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, and later served as Dean of the Faculty for Civil Engineering from 1977 to 1996. Nemetschek AG was created in 1997. In 1999, Nemetschek Programmsysteme GmbH went public.
Key Business Strategies
Nemetschek’s key strategy involved early adoption and innovation in software for the construction sector, with a focus on the entire building lifecycle. The company expanded into 3D animation and motion design, securing access to the media industry. Since 2008, Nemetschek has operated as a holding company with four business units: Planning & Design, Build & Construct, Manage & Operate, and Media & Entertainment.
Philanthropy
Georg Nemetschek has established three foundations: The Professor Georg Nemetschek Foundation (1996), the Nemetschek Foundation (2007), and the Nemetschek Innovation Foundation (2020). These foundations support education, science, research, and the advancement of AI in construction. In 2020, he transferred 350,000 shares of Nemetschek SE to the Nemetschek Innovation Foundation.
