Georg Nemetschek was born on June 5, 1934, in Feldsberg, Czechoslovakia (now Valtice, Czech Republic). During World War II, his mother fled with her children to the West. He studied civil engineering at the Technical University in Munich.

In 1963, Nemetschek founded an engineering office focused on structural design, which was one of the first to use computers and develop software for engineers. He launched Statik 97/77 for civil engineering in 1977 and, in 1980, presented software for integrated calculation and design of standard components. Nemetschek AG was established in 1994.
