Eyal Ofer was born in Haifa, Israel, in 1950. He is the son of Sammy Ofer, a Romanian-born Israeli shipping magnate. Growing up in a maritime environment, Ofer spent his summers working on his family's cargo ships, gaining firsthand experience in the shipping industry. He graduated from Atlantic College in Wales and later studied Maritime Law at the University of London. His early life experiences, including serving as an intelligence officer in the Israeli Air Force, shaped his strategic mindset and prepared him for a successful career.
Rise to Success
Ofer began his career in international maritime transportation in the 1980s. He expanded his shipping company, Zodiac Group, to own and operate nearly 190 ships, establishing himself as a significant player in the global shipping market. He is the chairman of Ofer Global, a privately held investment company with interests in shipping, energy, real estate, and technology. His business acumen led to strategic investments in real estate and technology, significantly increasing his wealth. Ofer is the chairman of Global Holdings, a private real estate holding company specializing in large-scale commercial real estate and high-end residential developments. Ofer's real estate portfolio includes over 120 properties around the world, including 15 Central Park West and 50 United Nations Plaza in Manhattan, and Vogue House in London.
