Dieter Schwarz was born on September 24, 1939, in Heilbronn, Germany. He is the owner of the Schwarz-Gruppe. His father, Josef Schwarz, was a businessman and co-founded the Lidl & Schwarz KG trading company. Growing up in post-war Germany, Schwarz witnessed the hardships of rebuilding a nation. This environment shaped his values of perseverance, humility, and financial prudence, which later became the foundation of his business empire. He pursued a commercial apprenticeship at his father's company between 1958 and 1960.
Rise to Success
In 1973, he opened the first Lidl discount store. Schwarz took full control of the business after his father's death in 1977. He led the international expansion and strategic acquisitions of Lidl and Kaufland. Schwarz built the Schwarz Group into Europe's largest retail empire.
