Early Life
David Lloyd Steward was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 2, 1951. His family moved to Clinton, Missouri, in 1953. Growing up in Clinton, Steward experienced poverty and racial segregation. He received a Bachelor of Science in business from Central Missouri State University in 1973.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Steward held various positions, including production manager at Wagner Electric, sales representative at Missouri Pacific Railroad, and senior account executive at Federal Express, where he was recognized as salesman of the year. In 1990, he founded World Wide Technology (WWT). WWT grew to become the largest Black-owned company in the United States, providing IT services to major corporations. Steward's leadership has been key to WWT's success, with annual revenues exceeding $20 billion and partnerships with numerous Fortune 100 companies.
