Dang Yanbao was born in 1973 in Yanchi County, Ningxia, China. Growing up, Dang's family faced economic challenges, which instilled in him a strong work ethic and an early interest in business and economics. He pursued higher education, earning an MBA from Peking University, providing him with a strong foundation in business management and the Chinese economy.
Rise to Success
In 2005, Dang founded the Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group, focusing on coal chemical products. This strategic move came at a time when China's industrial sector was growing rapidly. Baofeng Energy quickly gained recognition for its advanced technology and efficient production processes, becoming a key player in the Chinese coal industry. Dang's leadership was instrumental in the company's growth, with Baofeng Energy ranking 307th among the top private manufacturing enterprises in China in 2020.
Key Business Strategies
Dang Yanbao's success is rooted in his strategic investments in the coal chemical industry and his vision to expand into renewable energy. He has emphasized innovation, efficiency, and diversification in business operations. A key strategy has been the integration of traditional industries with sustainable energy solutions. Baofeng Energy has developed one of the world's largest solar farms in the Ningxia region, reflecting his commitment to sustainable energy. In March 2025, Baofeng Energy completed its $9.5 billion polyalkene plant in China's Inner Mongolia, the largest in the world with 3 million ton annual capacity.
Philanthropy
Dang Yanbao is also a committed philanthropist. In 2011, he and his wife, Bian Haiyan, established the Ningxia Yanbao Charity Foundation. The foundation focuses on sponsoring education and poverty alleviation, having supported over 256,700 young students financially as of 2021. In 2019, Dang donated RMB 302 million to the foundation.
