Early Life
Charles Liang was born in Chiayi, Taiwan, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. During his studies, Liang was interested in medical technologies and worked on developing computerized systems.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Liang began his career as a teacher but soon transitioned to the technology sector. From 1991 to 1993, he served as the president and chief design engineer of Micro Center Computer Inc. In 1993, Liang co-founded Supermicro with his wife, Sara Liu. Since its inception, Liang has served as the President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board. Under his guidance, Supermicro has evolved into a multi-billion-dollar business, providing complete rack and data center-level solutions.
Key Business Strategies
Liang's leadership has focused on innovation, modular design, and energy efficiency. Supermicro's success is attributed to its ability to offer customizable, high-performance server hardware at a competitive price. The company's focus on "green computing" and rapid incorporation of new technologies has also been key to its growth, particularly in the AI and data center markets. The company's revenue for the twelve months ending June 30, 2025, was $21.97 billion, a 46.59% increase year over year.
Philanthropy
Liang founded the Green Earth Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on increasing forestation worldwide. The foundation has purchased land in California and supports the Great Green Wall initiative in the Sahara Desert.
