Early Life
Changpeng Zhao, commonly known as CZ, was born in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, China, in 1977. His parents were both teachers. Due to political tensions, the family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, when CZ was 12 years old. As a teenager, he contributed to his family's income by working various service jobs, including at McDonald's and a gas station.
Career and Rise to Success
After attending McGill University in Montreal, where he earned a computer science degree, CZ began his career in the financial sector. He developed software for the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Bloomberg Tradebook. In 2005, he moved to Shanghai and founded Fusion Systems, a company known for building high-frequency trading systems. His involvement in the cryptocurrency space began in 2013 when he joined Blockchain.info. He then worked at OKCoin as CTO for less than a year. In 2017, CZ co-founded Binance, which quickly became the largest cryptocurrency exchange.
Key Business Strategies
Binance's success is attributed to several factors. Initially, the platform focused on crypto-to-crypto trading, avoiding regulatory hurdles. The launch of the BNB token provided users with discounts on trading fees. Binance expanded rapidly, offering a wide range of services and geographic reach.
Philanthropy
