Alex Shevchenko was born in Ukraine and moved to Canada in his early twenties. He earned a BBA from the International University in Vienna, Austria and an MBA from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. He is fluent in English, Russian, and Ukrainian.

In 2006, while still a student, Shevchenko founded MyDropBox, a plagiarism detection company. The company was a success, serving over 2 million students and was later acquired by Blackboard Inc. This early venture laid the foundation for his future success.
In 2009, Shevchenko co-founded Grammarly with Max Lytvyn and Dmytro Lider. Grammarly is an AI-powered communication assistant designed to improve writing.
