Early Life
Abigail Pierrepont Johnson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 19, 1961. She is the granddaughter of Edward C. Johnson II, who founded Fidelity Investments in 1946. Growing up in a household where business and investment were frequently discussed, she was drawn to her father's work. Johnson attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols School and graduated from William Smith College in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in art history. She later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1988.
Rise to Success
After graduating from Harvard Business School, Johnson joined Fidelity Investments in 1988 as an analyst and portfolio manager. She progressed through various roles within the company, becoming president of Fidelity Asset Management in 2001. In 2012, she was named president of Fidelity Investments, and in 2014, she became CEO. She was named chairman in 2016, giving her full control of the company.
