Early Life
Zhou Chaonan was born in Hengyang, Hunan Province, China. Her given name, Chaonan, which translates to “surpassing males,” reflected the high expectations placed upon her by her father. Growing up in the era after China’s Cultural Revolution, Zhou was one of the first college graduates. Her father hoped she would live up to the famous quote of Chairman Mao Zedong: “Women can hold up half the sky.”
Rise to Success
After a brief stint as a teacher, Zhou worked in a state-owned logistics hub. She then worked for almost two decades in various state-owned firms. Zhou did not launch her own business until 2000, when she was 40 years old. She founded Tiantong Communication Network, which provided mobile telecommunication networks and counted telecom giant China Mobile as one of its clients. Zhou pivoted to data centers in 2009, founding Range Technology Development, which later became Range Intelligent Computing Technology Group. Range Intelligent went public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2022.
