Early Life
Yuri Shefler was born on September 10, 1967, in Oryol, Russia, to a Russian Jewish family. Not much is publicly known about his childhood.
Rise to Success
After serving in the Soviet Army until September 1987, Shefler pursued a degree in economics from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, graduating in 1996. During the perestroika era, he engaged in voucher trading and small-scale commerce. In 1997, he founded SPI Group, which would become a global alcohol conglomerate. He acquired the international trademarks for 43 Russian-origin brands, including Stolichnaya vodka.
Key Business Strategies
Shefler's key business strategy involved acquiring and developing global distribution rights for vodka brands. He focused on premium vodkas and other spirits, building a strong international presence. In 2021, he restructured the business, splitting it into Stoli Group for premium brands and Amber Beverage Group for other operations.
Philanthropy
Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Stoli Group pledged financial support to humanitarian efforts. The company has supported World Central Kitchen (WCK), a nonprofit providing meals during crises, to aid operations in Ukraine and for Ukrainian refugees.
