Early Life and Political Career
Ye Chenghai was born in Meizhou, Guangdong, China, on August 15, 1943. He belongs to the Hakka ethnic group. He studied international politics at Renmin University of China. After graduating in 1968, he was assigned to Bao'an County, the predecessor of Shenzhen. Ye held various positions in Shenzhen, including serving as a member of the municipal party standing committee, party secretary of Luohu District, and Vice Mayor of Shenzhen.
Rise to Success
Ye Chenghai resigned from his government role in 1985 and entered the business world. He founded and held positions in multiple companies, including Hong Kong-based Meizhou International Trade. His major achievement was transforming Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals into a prominent pharmaceutical company, making significant contributions to China's healthcare sector.

Ye's primary business venture is Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals, specializing in the research, development, and production of pharmaceutical products. Under his leadership, the company experienced remarkable growth. In September 2022, Ye resigned as chairman and continued as a director; his son, Ye Yuxiang (Kevin Sing Ye), was appointed chairman.
Philanthropy
Ye has served as a vice chairman of Renmin University of China's board. In April 2024, Renmin University of China announced the establishment of the Chenghai Institute for Global Development and Security, funded by Ye's donation.
