Early Life
Yang Huiyan was born in 1981 in Shunde, Guangdong, China. Her father, Yang Guoqiang, founded Country Garden in 1992. Yang graduated from Ohio State University in 2003 with a degree in arts and science. In 2005, her father transferred his shares in Country Garden to her.
Rise to Success
In 2007, Country Garden went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and Yang became the majority shareholder. This move made her the richest woman in Asia at the time. She became the chairwoman of the board in February 2023.
Key Business Strategies
Yang's leadership has coincided with Country Garden's expansion in China. The company focused on residential, commercial, and township developments. However, the Chinese property sector downturn has significantly impacted the company.
Philanthropy
In 2023, Yang donated approximately 55% of her personal stake in a property management firm to a charity founded by her sister. This donation, valued at around $826 million, was aimed at supporting various charitable causes.
