Early Life
Xu Gaoming was born in 1964 in Hunan Province, China. His career began in the 1980s when he worked as a clerk in the Yueyang Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Bureau. From 1992 to 1993, he was the general manager of the Fisheries Building of the same bureau. Xu also pursued education, earning a degree in freshwater fishery from Huazhong Agricultural University through a correspondence program in 1988.
Rise to Success
In 1995, after over a decade of working in the city government, Xu launched a startup to sell tourist souvenirs and culture-related products. In 2016, Xu established Laopu Gold, which specializes in "heritage gold jewelry." The company focuses on traditional Chinese design and craftsmanship and is often dubbed the "Hermès of gold jewelry." Xu took Laopu Gold public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2024.
