Early Life
William Fung Kwok Lun was born in Hong Kong on February 21, 1949. He is the grandson of Fung Pak-liu, who co-founded Li & Fung in 1906. After graduating from Princeton University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1970, Fung pursued an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1972.
Rise to Success
Fung joined the family business, Li & Fung, after completing his education. Under his leadership, the company expanded its operations significantly, extending its reach to Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, and China. William Fung played a crucial role in transforming Li & Fung into a global trading powerhouse.
Key Business Strategies
Fung, along with his brother Victor, oversaw Li & Fung's transformation into a major supply chain management company. He served as Group Chairman, leading the group until 2020. He has also served as a non-executive director for various prominent companies, including HSBC Holdings, CLP Holdings Limited, and Singapore Airlines.
Philanthropy
William Fung is also known for his philanthropic activities, particularly his contributions to education. He endowed the "Fung Scholarship" at Princeton University and was appointed to the university's board of trustees in 2009.
