Wee Ee Cheong was born in 1952. He is the eldest son of the late Wee Cho Yaw, a prominent figure in Singapore's banking industry. Wee was instilled with strong values of hard work and integrity from a young age. He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Applied Economics from the American University.

Wee's professional journey began in 1979 when he joined UOB. His dedication and expertise quickly propelled him through various roles within the bank. In 2000, he was appointed Deputy Chairman and President, a significant step in his career. He ascended to the position of CEO in April 2007. Under his leadership, UOB has expanded its regional footprint, particularly in Southeast Asia, solidifying its position as a major player in the financial sector. Wee has also emphasized digital transformation and innovation, modernizing UOB's services to meet evolving customer needs.
