Early Life and Education
Vladimir Voronin was born in Corjova, Moldavian SSR, on May 25, 1941. He graduated from the Cooperation Tekhnikum of Chișinău in 1961, the All-Union Institute for Food Industry in 1971, the Academy of Social Sciences of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1983, and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union in 1991. His educational background encompasses economics, engineering, political science, and law.
Career and Rise to Leadership
Voronin started his career in the baking industry in 1961. He then held various positions within the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic government. He served as Minister of Internal Affairs of the Moldavian SSR from 1988 to 1990. In 1994, Voronin was elected President of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM), which he played a central role in re-establishing after it was banned in 1991–1993.
Presidency of Moldova
Voronin was elected President of Moldova in 2001 and served for two terms, until 2009. During his presidency, he focused on social reforms, improved relations with Russia, and sought to integrate Moldova with Europe.
Post-Presidency
After his presidency, Voronin remained active in politics and served in the Moldovan Parliament. He is the founder of FSK Group, a major housing developer in Russia.
