Early Life and Education
Vladimir Sergeyevich Kim was born on October 29, 1960, in Myrzakent, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union. He is of Korean ethnicity. Kim graduated from the Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering in 1982 with a degree in civil engineering. He furthered his education by obtaining an MBA and a PhD in business and administrative management from John F. Kennedy University in California in 1998.
Rise to Success
Kim's career began in 1995 when he was appointed managing director and CEO of Zhezkazgantsvetmet JSC. In 2000, he became the chairman of the board of directors. He then became Chairman of Kazakhmys in 2005 after it was listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 2013, he stepped down as chairman and became a non-executive director. Kim acquired a 25% stake in the Hitech Grand Prix motor racing team in June 2023.
Key Business Strategies
Kim's business strategy focused on the natural resources sector. He owns a network of offshore companies. He has been the major shareholder in KAZ Minerals PLC, a mining company listed on the London, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan Stock Exchanges. Kim owns 63.5% of KAZ Minerals Ltd. He is also the majority shareholder of RBK Bank. Kim's ventures have played a pivotal role in shaping Kazakhstan's economic landscape.

Kim is known for his philanthropic endeavors and commitment to social responsibility. He established the Vladimir Kim Foundation, supporting education, healthcare, and cultural initiatives in Kazakhstan.
