Valerie Anne Mars was born on January 20, 1959, as a member of the fourth generation of the Mars family. Growing up, she was immersed in the legacy of Mars, Incorporated, a company founded by her great-grandfather, Frank C. Mars, in 1911. Her father was Forrest Mars Jr., a co-owner of the company.
