Early Life
Vadim Yakunin was born on January 5, 1963, in the Yaroslavl Region, Russia. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) in 1986 with a degree in engineer-physicist and completed his postgraduate studies there in 1989.
Rise to Success
Yakunin's career began in the Hungarian tourism sector, gaining experience and insights into the business world. He then transitioned to the pharmaceutical industry, founding the Rigla pharmacy chain, which became a significant player in the Russian market. Yakunin's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Protek pharmaceuticals firm, further solidifying his position in the industry. He served as General Director of CJSC CV PROTEK from 1990-2000 and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of CJSC PROTEK from 1998-2002. Since 2002, he has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of OJSC PROTEK. In 2024, he purchased 70% of a cancer laboratory from Atlas Holding.
