Early Life and Education
Trevor Burgess was born in Sacramento, California, and later raised in Hanover, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1994 with a degree in government.
Career and Achievements
Burgess began his career in management consulting at Monitor Company. He then spent a decade at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker in New York, Los Angeles, and London, where he managed to execute over $50 billion in transactions. He was the first openly gay managing director at Morgan Stanley. In 2012, he became CEO of C1 Financial, and in 2014, he became the first openly gay CEO of a publicly traded bank. C1 Bank was later sold to Bank OZK in 2016. Burgess founded TRB Development and is the president, majority shareholder, and CEO of Neptune Flood Insurance. Neptune went public on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2025.
Philanthropy and Recognition
Burgess is a supporter of organizations like the St. Petersburg Free Clinic and the Dali Museum. In 2021, he and his husband donated $1 million to the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. He has received recognition as an E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year and as American Banker's Banker of the Year in 2014.
