Early Life
Timur Ruslanovich Turlov was born in Moscow, Russia, on November 13, 1987. He grew up in a post-Soviet era with his mother, who was a scientist. At a young age, Turlov developed an interest in the stock market. In 2003, he started his career as a trader at the Moscow branch of World Capital Investments (WCI). In 2005, he was hired by Yutreyd.ru to manage American stock market operations.
Rise to Success
In 2008, during the financial crisis, Turlov founded Freedom Finance, which provided access to US stock exchanges and brokerage services. He saw an opportunity to democratize investment opportunities, attracting retail investors by promoting American securities. In 2011, he moved to Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 2012, Freedom Finance expanded into Kazakhstan, becoming a leading brokerage company. Subsidiaries were opened in other countries between 2015 and 2018. In 2019, Freedom Holding Corp. was listed on the Nasdaq, making it the first financial institution from the Commonwealth of Independent States to be listed there.
