Early Life
Tilman Joseph Fertitta was born in Galveston, Texas, on June 25, 1957. Growing up in a Sicilian-American household, his entrepreneurial spirit was evident from a young age. His father owned a seafood restaurant, where Tilman began working, developing a strong work ethic. He attended Texas Tech University and the University of Houston, studying business administration and hospitality management, but did not graduate, choosing instead to pursue his business ventures.
Rise to Success
Fertitta's career took off when he acquired a controlling interest in Landry's Seafood in 1986, becoming the sole owner by 1988. Under his leadership, Landry's grew into a major hospitality and entertainment company through strategic acquisitions of various restaurant chains and entertainment venues. Fertitta's business acumen led to the expansion of Landry's and the development of the Kemah Boardwalk, a significant tourist attraction. Fertitta expanded his empire to include the Golden Nugget Casinos, further diversifying his business interests. In 2017, he purchased the Houston Rockets for $2.2 billion.
