Rise to Success
Sandell's career began after earning a bachelor's degree from Uppsala University and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University. He started his career covering European stocks in Paris for Atlantic Finance from May 1986 to May 1987. He later became the head of equity research at Group Delphi in Paris. Sandell then joined Bear Stearns in 1988, working with Ace Greenberg. In 1997, he left Bear Stearns as a senior managing director and co-head of the Risk Arbitrage department. In 1998, Sandell founded Sandell Asset Management in New York. The fund focuses on global risk arbitrage, equity special situations, and credit opportunities. The firm was recognized as the "Best Performing Risk Arbitrage Fund" by The Hedge Fund Journal and was included in "The Hedge Fund Hot 100."
