Early Life
Thomas J. Pritzker was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 6, 1950, into the affluent Pritzker family. His parents were Jay Pritzker, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, and Marian "Cindy" Friend Pritzker. Thomas's upbringing was marked by the family's entrepreneurial ventures in law, real estate, and hospitality. His grandfather, Abram Nicholas (A.N.) Pritzker, laid the foundation for the family's wealth by investing in real estate and other ventures.
Rise to Success
Pritzker earned a Bachelor of Arts from Claremont McKenna College and later obtained a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He joined the family business in the 1970s, working closely with his father, Jay Pritzker. One of their most notable ventures was Hyatt Hotels Corporation, which they acquired in 1957. Thomas was appointed President of Hyatt Corporation in 1980 and became its Chairman and CEO in 1999. He served as CEO until December 2006 and remains the executive chairman. He also serves as chairman and CEO of The Pritzker Organization, the family's investment and advisory firm.
