Early Life
Theodore Permadi Rachmat, or Teddy Rachmat, was born on December 15, 1943, in Majalengka, Indonesia. He is the nephew of William Soeryadjaya, the founder of Astra International. Rachmat graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology.
Rise to Success
Rachmat's career began at Astra International in 1968, where he started as a salesman, becoming employee number 15. He rose through the ranks and became CEO of Astra. In 1998, he founded the Triputra Group, a holding company with interests in various sectors, including agribusiness, manufacturing, and mining. Rachmat also owns a minority stake in Alamtri Resources Indonesia (formerly Adaro Energy).
