Early Life
Takao Yasuda was born in 1949 in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. He graduated from Keio University with a degree in law. After graduation, he initially worked in the real estate industry.
Rise to Success
Yasuda's entrepreneurial journey began in 1978 with a small discount store in Tokyo called Thieves' Market. In 1980, he founded Just Co., which later became Don Quijote Co., Ltd. (now Pan Pacific International Holdings). The first Don Quijote store opened in 1989 in Fuchu, Tokyo. Yasuda oversaw the company's rapid expansion, transforming it into a household name in Japan with its distinctive, maze-like store layouts and diverse product offerings. The company went public in 1998 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Yasuda's key strategies included creating a unique shopping experience with stores open 24 hours a day, a wide range of products, and a focus on entertainment. He also empowered store staff to make decisions on pricing and product selection, adapting to local consumer preferences.
