Early Life
Soegiarto Adikoesoemo was born in 1938 in Malang, East Java, Indonesia, during a period of significant change for the archipelago. His childhood coincided with the Indonesian National Revolution. He holds Indonesian citizenship and is of ethnic Chinese descent.
Rise to Success
Adikoesoemo's entrepreneurial journey began in 1960 when he established a small chemical trading business in Surabaya. He incorporated PT Aneka Kimia Raya in 1978 and expanded his business to include petroleum distribution, logistics, chemical manufacturing, and industrial estates. A key milestone was the 1994 IPO of AKR Corporindo on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. He built significant manufacturing plants for sorbitol in Indonesia and China.
Key Business Strategies
Adikoesoemo focused on strategic partnerships, including a joint venture with BP for aviation fuel distribution. He spearheaded the development of the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE), a large integrated industrial park, and led AKR Corporindo to become a key player in Indonesia's energy and logistics sectors.
Philanthropy
Adikoesoemo's family supports various educational and cultural institutions. His son, Haryanto Adikoesoemo, founded the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Museum MACAN) in Jakarta, showcasing a collection of modern and contemporary art, highlighting the family's commitment to art and cultural impact.
