Shashank Kumar hails from Chhapra, Bihar, and comes from a middle-class family. His parents instilled in him the value of hard work and education. He excelled academically, achieving state ranks in school and later earning a B.Tech in Textile Engineering with a minor in Business Administration from IIT Delhi in 2008.
Rise to Success
Before Razorpay, Kumar worked as a Software Development Engineer at Microsoft. In 2014, Kumar, along with Harshil Mathur, co-founded Razorpay. Razorpay quickly gained traction by simplifying online payments for businesses that were underserved by traditional banks. In October 2020, Razorpay achieved unicorn status with a valuation of $1 billion.
