Sergei Viktorovich Popov was born on August 12, 1971, in Yekaterinburg, Russia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts/Science from Ural State Technical University.
Rise to Success
Popov began his career in 1994 by co-founding Prodcontract, a company supplying scrap metal to Russia's largest metallurgical plants. In 1996, he co-founded MDM Business Concern. From 1997 to 1999, he served as a partner and business manager for MDM. In 2000, he became co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of MDM Industrial Group. During this time, MDM established major businesses in the production of pipes, fertilizers, and thermal coal. Popov also became a 50% partner in MDM Bank in 2003. In 2006, he began selling off his business assets. He is also a founder of a private fund called Agat, which has a mentoring program that offers young businesspeople startup capital.
