Early Life
Sergei Galitsky was born Sergey Arutyunyan on August 14, 1967, in Lazarevskoye, Russia. He later adopted his wife's surname. From 1985 to 1987, he served in the Soviet army. Galitsky graduated from Kuban State University with a degree in economics in 1993.
Rise to Success
Galitsky's entrepreneurial journey started in 1994 with the founding of Transasia, a wholesale cosmetics and perfumery business. He later established Tander in 1995, the foundation for Magnit. In 1998, he opened the first Magnit grocery store in Krasnodar, which quickly became Russia's largest retail chain by store count. Magnit went public in 2006.

Galitsky focused on offering 'Always Low Prices' and operational efficiency. His strategies included rapid expansion, strategic use of technology, and a focus on cost-effectiveness, which propelled Magnit's growth. Magnit also built a greenhouse facility for organic vegetable distribution.
Philanthropy
Galitsky has invested in the FC Krasnodar soccer club and academy, and in a park named after him.
