Seo Jung-jin was born in Cheongju, South Korea. He graduated from Jemulpo High School. He earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Konkuk University.
Career
Seo Jung-jin began his career at Samsung Electronics and later worked as a consultant for Daewoo Motors. He founded Nexol in 1999, a company that later became Celltrion Healthcare. In 2002, he co-founded Celltrion, which focuses on biosimilars. Seo retired from Celltrion in March 2021, but returned as chairman in March 2023.
Rise to Success
Under Seo's leadership, Celltrion became the first company to receive regulatory approval for a biosimilar monoclonal antibody. The company's portfolio expanded to include biosimilars for critical therapeutic areas such as oncology and autoimmune diseases. In 2020, Celltrion generated $1.6 billion in revenue and $440 million in profits, significantly boosted by a Covid-19 antibody treatment drug. By June 2021, his net worth reached $13 billion, making him the richest person in South Korea at the time.
