Early Life
Sandro Veronesi was born in Ala, Trento, Italy, in 1959. Growing up in a rural farming area, he developed an early appreciation for local produce and labor. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics and commerce from the University of Verona in 1983.
Rise to Success
Veronesi began his career at Golden Lady Spa, where he gained experience in the hosiery industry. In 1987, he founded Calzedonia Spa. The company initially focused on selling tights and stockings, expanding into lingerie and underwear in the mid-1990s. By 2013, Calzedonia had over 3,000 stores across 30 countries.
Key Business Strategies
Veronesi's key strategy involved vertical integration, from design and manufacturing to distribution. He adopted a franchise model to facilitate rapid expansion, opening numerous stores across Italy and later internationally. The Calzedonia Group expanded with Intimissimi and Tezenis brands. Veronesi diversified into the wine sector with Signorvino wine bars and invested in luxury hospitality and yachting.
Philanthropy
In 1999, Veronesi founded the San Zeno Foundation in Verona, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, vocational training, and employment opportunities, particularly for young people and disadvantaged communities.
