Early Life
Samuel Tak Lee was born in April 1939 in Guangdong Province, China, and grew up in Hong Kong. He received his early education at Diocesan Boys' School in Hong Kong. Lee then pursued higher education in the United States, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in civil and environmental engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1964. He also obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Rise to Success
After completing his studies, Lee returned to Hong Kong to join his family's real estate company, Prudential Enterprise Limited. Under his leadership, the company expanded significantly and moved into international markets. By 1985, Lee had taken full control of Prudential Enterprise, transforming it into a global real estate powerhouse. A pivotal moment in his career was the 1994 acquisition of the Langham Estate in London's Fitzrovia district.

Lee's key business strategies involved strategic investments and acquisitions in prime real estate markets worldwide. He focused on building a diverse portfolio of properties in major financial cities. He is known for his long-term investment approach and his ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities within the real estate sector.
Philanthropy
Samuel Tak Lee is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts. In 2015, he donated $118 million to MIT to establish the Samuel Tak Lee Real Estate Entrepreneurship Lab. Additionally, Lee founded the Tak Lee Foundation to support educational and cultural institutions in Hong Kong and mainland China.
