Roberto Irineu Marinho was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 13, 1947. He is the eldest son of Roberto Marinho, the founder of Grupo Globo. He is Roman Catholic.
Rise to Success
Marinho began his career at a young age, working at the O Globo newspaper, the cornerstone of the family's media empire. He started as a linotypist and worked his way up to reporter. In 1978, he became the executive vice-president of TV Globo, and in 1990, he rose to the position of vice-president of Grupo Globo. From August 2002 to December 2017, he served as the executive president of Grupo Globo. In December 2017, he stepped down as executive president but continues to serve as the Vice-President of the Board of Directors.
