Roberto Hernández Ramírez was born on September 15, 1942, in Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico. He grew up in a middle-class family and displayed an early interest in business and finance. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Ibero-American University in 1964.
Rise to Success
Hernández Ramírez co-founded Acciones y Valores de México (Accival) in 1971 with Alfredo Harp Helú. He served as Chairman of the Board until 2005. In 1974, he became the youngest president of the Mexican Stock Exchange. Accival acquired Banamex in 1991, forming Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival, which Hernández chaired. From 1997 to 2001, he served as CEO of Banamex.

Hernández Ramírez's key business strategy involved building and expanding Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival into a leading financial institution in Mexico. He played a crucial role in the development of the Mexican stock market and the banking sector. In 2001, Citigroup purchased Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival.
